A minor setback

Unfortunately, Ian caught what Lila and I had last week and I had to put him back on oxygen Monday. It was a nice few days without. At least his face got a chance to heal a bit. We saw our pediatrician Monday and the Pulmonologist on Wednesday. Dr. P (one of his Pulm drs.) gave him a shot of steroid to give him a boost and then put him on oral as well. We decided not to admit and to see how he'd do.

He did okay Wednesday night but was very stressed breathing Thursday morning. So I called in and Dr. I (his other Pulm.) said to bring him in. We were lucky to have a direct admit last night. Thank goodness no ER! I'm really thinking we'll not be here long.

He's sleeping at this moment and doing great. It's when he's awake that there's issues. He just seems to get anxious about his breathing, which perpetuates the problem. Dr. I said that, because of his Pulmonary Hypertension, when he stresses out, his vessels tighten down and it makes it even harder for him to get air through.

His x-ray showed only one little spot of breakdown or congestion. She feels it's a mucus plug and is not super worried about it. They tried to get an IV last night and, of course, couldn't. This nurse seemed really good but his veins were collapsing. Not because he's dehydrated, just because they do that. They were about to do an IM (Intramuscular) shot of antibiotic but he fell asleep and looked wonderful. I sent a text to Dr. I to ask if we can wait until the morning. She said she's try another antibiotic that can go through his gTube and see how he does. Then wait to get the labs back.

So hopefully we'll be out tonight or tomorrow. Of course I don't want to be too presumptuous as we've been told that many times and had things take a turn for the worse. I'll just wait patiently and cross all of my fingers and toes ;-)
