Well, almost cordless (he still has his g-tube for meds). Ian has been officially taken off continuous oxygen! I took him off Monday because he had once again pulled it off himself and his cheeks were just raw. I just couldn't bear to put it back on and he was satting 98-100 on 1/8 of a liter so I thought I'd give him a break. I had an appointment Tuesday with the pulmonologist for both kids so I thought I'd ask his opinion on what to do about him ripping his face apart. And he said, keep it off! I'll take it!
I don't want to get too excited. Last time we were this close, he got sick and we ended up back in the hospital. So, as with everything else, we'll take it day by day. But for now, I've got so much more freedom with my little guy and I can kiss his cheeks all day long!
We still will have to put him on pulsox monitor at night for a week to make sure he's good. Also when he's sick it will be back on oxygen and all the breathing treatments every 4 hours. But with the weaning of oxygen, comes weaning of meds too. He took him off of Albuterol and lessened his Lasix from 3 doses a day to 2. I'm changing one thing at a time just so I make sure it's all good before we go too crazy.
The trick now is to keep him healthy. Hard to do with the germ girl in the room across from him. He's got a bit of a runny nose now so I'm keeping it clear with saline and suctioning. We'll see how we go.
He was satting really well for a couple days but unfortunately he's not so high right now so we might have to put him back on for a bit but at least we are on our way.
