They do warn you that after so much progress, your child might take a step or two back. That's what happened yesterday. Mike went in to visit him in the evening while I watched Lila play in the child play area in the hospital. We had called around noon and spoke to his nurse (the same one who was on the day before) and everything seemed very similar to the night before.
He was off of Dopamine and they had completely weaned him off the Milrinone (dialates he pulmonary artery). His oxygen was @ 50% on the ventilator. Last night, the nurse had mentioned he runs a bit high on his temp but they kept checking for infection and the tests came back negatived. They've all come to feel that he's just a little warm as his norm.
When Mike went in, they told him about the rest of the day. His gases had been looking reading really low. In fact once they did one and received such a low reading they did it again because they thought it was so off but ended up with the same result. They had to put him back up to 100% oxygen again. They also slowly brought back the Milrinone. He was quite agitated during the day and was working really hard to breathe so they upped his Morphine a bit. They were hoping with a bit more sedation he wouldn't fight the ventilator so much. His heart rate was running a bit higher, in the 170's - 180's which usually ran a bit lower.
I just called now to check in and received a little better report. His gasses were now coming back much better and she had weaned his Oxygen down to 95%. His heart rate was now in the 150's which is more "normal" for him. She gave him Tylenol because his temp keeps spiking but they are not sure why. She sent a bunch of labs out again this morning. But she said he's looks the most comfortable he's looked since yesterday.
Let's hope for more progress today.
