Ian finally decided to use the toilet! I came back from my mom's heart surgery and that week, we tried again having him sit on the toilet and making him laugh. This is what worked in Japan last year 2 times. When I discovered this while giving him a shower, making him laugh really hard made him go so I tried it on the toilet. It worked 1 time there and 1 time at home then nothing again. Until end of February.
He's getting 5 minutes of iPad time after he goes so that's really why he's doing it but whatever it takes! He asks regularly, sometime too many times a day. But I have to honor his request, just in case. It has been amazing! I think I've changed 3 bm diapers since he started! And thank goodness! I was so sad when I came back from my mom's surgery. Especially when I was changing Ian. Thinking about my parents mortality and Mike and I's mortality. Thinking about who might take care of Ian when we go and if we are setting that up right. We def don't have enough in his trust but at least we have it set up. But really, who will take care of him like we do. And what will it be like when he's older. Diapers was a huge one. Getting a sitter to change him was a big deal. Only those who really loved him would. He's a really big boy and it was time.
We do spend a lot of time in the bathroom, but not as much as we did when we've tried before with no results. When we tried the every 45 minutes thing for 6 months. And I have to put on a show every time. It's very strange, he loves it when we act like things are so stinky. Def want to change that to something else. He also loves it when we act dizzy. For now, I'll do anything to keep it going.
I was driving back from a trip with friends and he actually had a device because I had a friend in the car who hasn't spent that much time with him. So I gave him a device instead of dealing with the constant DJ requests for the same music over and over. And, he said "Poop and pee in the toilet" which is what he says when he wants to try to go. We pulled over about 20 mins later, because of the area we were in when he said it didn't have any place to go. When we finally go to a bathroom, he had a dry diaper and he peed in the toilet!!! Absolutely remarkable!
