Where else can you get bread, carrots, cookies, cake and donuts on demand AND Netflix at 5am? Yay hospital!!! Yes Ian, the hospital has iPads, doctors and Netflix 😊
The key to making a hospital stay a positive experience is all of these things and choices, choices, choices! I've always given my children choices to allow them to feel like they have a say in what's going on. And when there are times that a choice is not an option I can remind them, mommy often gives you choices but this time there is not a choice. For this stay it has been the one thing that has saved me a bit. He finally can communicate so much more. Empowering him with choices has made all the difference in the world!
Anyone ending up in this kind of situation, or really anytime you have a non-preferred task needing to be completed. Choices and favorite things are what might make it more palatable.
Thank you to my friend Teresa for sharing that book with me so many years ago! I don't stick to it all but the basics has worked wonders for me.
