I'm so excited I finally have a group of extremely intelligent professional specialists who analyze everything Ian does and are trying to figure out how to help him progress! I spend my life overthinking all that he does: his therapy, his school, his doctors, his supplements, etc., and now I have a group of people to converse and problem solve with. It's really remarkable. I finally have found my counterparts in my goal. I see why the biggest complaint about the program is the fact it's too short and your child can only go through once!
Today I had a meeting with the Behavioral Therapist to discuss specific behaviors they are working on and how to include the iPad within his communication strategy. It was an amazing meeting! We have goals, we have plans to implement, and if they don't work, we will try another approach. She listened and considered every response and asked for my input and not just to say she did it. Because she's actually interested in my perspective. They understand that because I'm the parent, I might know a thing or two about my child ;) Refreshing. She's actually considered my thoughts and suggestions or questions. Considering how they would work, or not work, and why.
And the meeting with Ian's care coordinator was the same. Completely open to my input... in fact encouraging it. It may sound crazy but it's hard to contain my excitement. To have been doing this for 4.5 years, to which to some is an eternity and others a drop in the bucket, and finally have an opportunity such as this. Definitely worth an Autism diagnosis. That will be discussed later ;)
I'll outline goals and plans later. Need to head to bed for now. We will just say, going well thus far :-)
