Last week in speech therapy she worked on having Ian sign "I want" and I added "piggy" at home. Now when he wants me to do "this little piggie..." I let him know he needs to ask. So he taps his chest for "I" and grabs my hands and brings them to him, for "want" and puts his hand under his chin for "piggy". We worked on trying to get him to sign want on his own but that'll take a while. He thinks that "want" includes my hands because I've been helping him sign it ;-)
Pretty big deal he can sign a sentence, even if it's not perfect.
We are also working on sounds but they are not coming along as hoped. Patience, that what it's about. We are working with his mouth, which is called Prompt, so he will know how it has to move to do the sounds when he's ready.
We have our LAUSE assessment tomorrow. Kind of stressed about it. But I guess it is what it is. I just want them to see how well he's doing and that he needs to be in a mixed school with typical role models. As of now we have good insurance so he gets his PT and OT through that. But where we go to for speech isn't covered so that has been through the regional center. Which will end on his birthday. Not sure what we'll do after that. It's so different there and feels like we will really make more progress. But they don't have afternoons avail either which is what we will need if we begin the Pediatric Minds program or any other school. Will deal with it when it comes.
I'm so tired. Need to rest, especially for tomorrow. 2 hours of seeing what he can do for strangers and answering questions about him.
