After a lovely break, including a really nice trip up north to see family for the holidays, we are back to school and therapies. It was surely great to be off but he is definitely happy to be back. He was so excited to be in his room when we returned from our trip. He could barely contain himself. So cute! And at school he loves circle time with the songs and I think just seeing everyone again.
They have him using a walker there and he's really good with it. I borrowed it for a weekend a while back but he's now much better with it that it's clear I need to find something for him to use at home. We keep thinking he'll walk on his own any day now but it hasn't happened yet. So the search for a good device is what's needed. The head PT at school gave me a list of them but have to see what's rentable. And something small enough to get around our little house as well as go outside on the sidewalks. He may not be confidant enough to walk on his own but he's ready to be more upward mobile so I need to enable that.
Funny, I was chatting with my friend who's daughter is in Ian's class and she has M-cm as well and sounds like they have even more similar patterns. They just don't want to be unstable at all. We were chatting about it together and realized that our kids don't like to fall. Where Lila would just go and fall until she got it, Ian's body freaks out a bit and stiffens up if he's about to fall when he's holding onto my finger. Her daughter is walking and has been for a while. She's also younger than Ian but only has M-cm and hasn't had other issues that kept her in the hospital, etc. Ian's probably about 10 months behind her. Which makes sense because that's about how much time he was in the hospital.
So nice to have a rhythm there and it's going to be so sad to leave in March. I really need to concentrate on finding the right preschool fit for him. It's been amazing for his development to attend UCLA. It's going to be a really tricky process to find the right place for him next.
We went to the aquarium, the park and Adventureplex in the last few days. He's so funny with what he's hesitant to do at all of those places. He'll sometimes just watch the kids, probably thinking they are all so crazy! The aquarium was fun last night. He loves the jellies, penguins and sea otters. Mellowed watching the jellies and completely cracked up watching the penguins and sea otters. So fun to watch! What a difference between now and when I first started taking him. He wouldn't look at anything then. We have come such a long way... thank goodness! He's not totally into everything like a typical child would be but he's on his way. I really feel if he would just start walking his development would take off.
