What to do about speech.

As happens quite often, I woke up at 4 and couldn't fall back asleep. And then of course my mind starts running through all that's going on. Currently at the forefront, at least where Ian's concerned, is speech. We went to therapy today and yesterday. And I'm not sure what I should do. We worked with another therapist the last two weeks because ours was out. We were also going to try prompt as another method, which this girl is supposed to be really great at. She ended up not doing it by the end. She said if she was his normal therapist she would be more agressive with it but she just wanted to connect with him instead of being on his face. I'm not sure if I agree with that but we worked it to have me out of the room for the bulk of the session so he could focus and it didn't come up until the end. Now back with our original therapist, we are back to not doing it at all. She's not certified in it. And I'm not sure I want her to get started on Ian until she is (which will happen in November) so she's not giving him the wrong signals and just irritating him.

Anyway, I know I go on about everything and I'll try to make this somewhat short. I'm just confused on what to do. Should I just hang for a few months to see if anything happens with our current girl, whom we really like and seems to connect with him. Or do I switch again if there's no progress.

I probably should give it at least a few months so we can really see if we make any goals. But I'm always so worried that I might be wasting precious development time with him.

I read through the M-cm posts tonight and found one that discussed speech. A few say there were really not a lot of words before 4. Some say still not many at older ages. I just want to give him the best I can in every area and I just don't know what to do here. He's gone from having all different kinds of sounds over his life to just uhuh. They are all gone. It's hard to take without thinking I'm not making the right choices to support him having speech.
