(This post was from a couple weeks ago and I never posted it! Happens quite often ;-)
In general Ian is doing quite well these days. He's still wheezing a bit but not as bad. And luckily we haven't had any additional episodes of strangeness. (I hope I'm not jinxing him ;-) His awareness, gross and fine motor skills are steadily improving. He wants to climb onto just about everything. When we are out, he studies other people, kids especially.
We have been told by Dr. Borchert that his eyes are slowly getting better. At close range he is actually using his right eye but still not at a distance. He wants me to continue with the drops for another 7 weeks and see how he does then.
We were at the zoo again for a bit after that appt (I realized
CHLA is only about 4 miles from the zoo) and he was actually watching the Meerkats! This is a huge deal. He rarely watches anything like this: birds, firetrucks, planes,
etc. And he was tracking these little creatures. He did the same with the flamingos & the swans. It was amazing!
And he's responding better to me. When I have his food ready to go I call to him to come over to eat and a few times he's crawled on over. At the end of the night when it's time to read books before bed, he has crawled over a few times now. So exciting!
Speech is the only thing that seems stalled. I'm still searching for the right fit. We did have a terrific meeting with one therapist in WLA who follows the Hanen Method. She was great with him, connected very quickly. But her goal is to teach me to work with him. She doesn't do ongoing therapy. So we have another 3 appts set and we'll see how it goes. Another guy is coming to the house this weekend. He also follows that method but I believe does ongoing therapy. Anyway, I've spoken to about 6 different places but am just a bit hesitant to commit unless I feel it's a perfect fit, just because of the last experience. The prior therapist is a wonderful woman but I just don't think they connected. I waited too long to make a change because she is a neighbor and really nice. But I don't know how much he got from the sessions.
He's now just saying the D words/sounds. Most everything else has been gone for a while now.
