A nice trip to Big Bear which reaffirmed his O2 needs

We just returned from a lovely few days in Big Bear with the four of us. Daddy even took a break from work to enjoy time with the family ;-)

But what an eye opener to Ian's O2 needs! At home we'll take him off for a walk, a bath or even a trip to the zoo. I'm always checking his sats when I do take him off and he's always doing well, between 97-100, usually on the higher end. But Big Bear is over 6000 feet in altitude. We asked the Pulmonologist about taking him and he said to just adjust his O2 as needed. We kept him at between 1.5-2.0 liters and monitored him on the Pulse-ox at night and checked him periodically throughout the day. When we took him off for a quick shower (no tub in the rental) he dropped immediately to 91!. Crazy! I haven't seen that number since he was in the hospital under really bad respiratory distress. Clearly his lungs are not ready for being in places like this regularly.

Another more positive discovery was his big sister proving herself to be even more amazing with him than ever. I thought I'd share a video, albeit difficult to watch due to the motion, which illustrates why our sweet Lila should get an oscar for her supporting role.
