X-ray not bad

It was a crazy 24 hours after the last post. Ian's cough was horrible Monday night and he cried non-stop for about an hour. I called CHLA Pulm on call and he felt I should bring him into the ER. I really didn't want to and kept asking Ian if he needed to go (crazy I know but I just didn't know what to do). Just as I was about to call my neighbor to come over to stay with Lila (Mike was oot), he calmed down. It took him another hour to fall asleep but he sounded much better.

Then in the morning he would turn purple from coughing so hard. Eyes watering and everything. I dropped Lila at school and took him back to Dr. Woo. She added an antibiotic to the steroids and sent us to UCLA for an x-ray and blood work. Couldn't find anyone to hang with Lila so I picked her up and took her with.

I had forgotten how bad they were at drawing blood at UCLA. That is a huge difference between CHLA and UCLA. All they draw from is kids at CHLA so they are good at it. This experience was horrible! After dumping all his toys by picking him out of the stroller to change his diaper, and then being told I couldn't change it in the place someone else told me to use. We went on search for a bathroom with a changing table which I never realized is a rare thing (another difference from CHLA) Anyway, we finally returned to have this woman make two attempts to get into the vein while he's screaming his head off and I'm holding him down. She finally got some help and they moved the needle around enough to get it but I was about to loose it. If they hadn't gotten it that moment, they would have had to have someone else come in.

We went from that to x-ray. He was not at all interested in staying still for that. I should have done them in the reverse order. After about 4 tries, she got a good image, then another 4 for the side view. Luckily, in this room Lila was playing with a tech in the adjoining room so she didn't have to witness me having to hold him again against his will.

The good thing is that after all of that, Dr. Woo called to say the x-ray didn't look so bad. She said his lungs looked hyper-inflated due to his wheezing not allowing the air to move out at typical pace. But other than that, not so bad. And his blood work was fine as well. Finally good news!

  1. I'm glad the x-ray turned out not so bad! Hope he starts feeling better soon and loses that cough. Emmy's been coughing up a storm too. Sweet babies.
