Ian turned 1 at home :-)

Ian's 1st birthday was Saturday and we celebrated at home. I flew up to pick up Lila from my parents on Thursday and Mike stayed the night at the hospital and brought Ian home on Friday. Originally we spoke of having a big party due to wanting to celebrate the true accomplishment of our little trooper making it through his first year but were weary due to the amount of time spent in the hospital and uncertainty of his health. And we are glad we held off.

We ended up just inviting immediate neighbors at the last minute in order to at least have some feeling of celebration rather than just family. It was amazing how many people couldn't make it because they were sick. I think my warning to avoid us, and them being extra cautious combined kept them away. But we had the perfect amount of people. And it was lovely!

As you can see, he explored his first chocolate via a cupcake. And his "big" gift was a wagon he could share with his sister. It was perfect! She's a little big for it but with his tiny tush and legs, they fit fine together. He love riding around with her and she with him. One of my best friends who lives across the street has two kids around Lila and Ian's age and they helped push on the inaugural ride. It was priceless! I'll post a video later when I have time to get it off Mike's machine. Such a fabulous day!

I felt like we actually have somewhat of a normal life... and would like to keep it that way. The trick is to keep everyone healthy. Ian already was a bit congested by Friday night but it hasn't gotten worse so far. He's off oxygen again and hopefully we can keep him off and begin to wean some of his meds. We just need to hope for a illness free spring and summer!
