Our pin cushion son.

Quick update. Ian has been diagnosed with Meningitis. He's been receiving  antibiotics that will treat this, if it is in fact bacterial instead of viral. The PIC line they attempted to put in the other day, which would have allowed us to have an RN administer the antibiotics at our home, did not work. The procedure, which I was expecting to take 30 minutes, took over 3 hours and they still didn't get it. Instead he came back with his arm strapped to a board (the bleeding wasn't stopping in a reasonable amount of time)  and an IV in each foot, neither one of which worked when the nurses tried flushing them! He was starving so I fed him some breastmilk from a bottle. Turns out they had his g-tube open for the surgery so what he took via mouth went straight out of it into a rubber globe they had strapped to the opening! He threw up what didn't come out, in one of his many coughing fits. Because he had picked up a cold as well.

After hanging out a bit to get him back into an eating groove and doing a knowledge transfer to Mike, I actually headed out. It's like Mike and I did a "change of shift". My brother got married yesterday (Thurs) and we decided I would go. Lila had already flown up with my Sister on Sunday. So Super Daddy stepped in and it's quite amazing what ensued from there.

So many doctors, blood tests, shots of antibiotics, (which Mike was now being trained to give) and talks with the insurance company were on the calendar. After just short of 48 insane hours, if you can believe it, he brought Ian home (Thursday).

They say they want to get the kids out of the hospital because of all the other crazy things they could be picking up while there, which is a valid point, but it also has a lot to do with the same reason we were in the ER for 24 hours this last time. They simply do not have enough beds/rooms. Don't get me wrong. I'd much rather have him home. But what I don't want is to have him encounter another setback and have to go back. Especially by way of the ER. I don't think any of us can take another round of that place for a while.

We'll see how it goes. I'll bring Lila back in the next day or so. Until then I'll keep in touch with my SuperDaddy husband and try to recharge for what's to come.

  1. What can I do to help? Can I take Lila here each day? Summer Camp with us?
