I actually posted my update before I went to bed last night, which was getting ahead of how I usually do it. But because today is a such a big day for our little guy, I thought I'd post another one after I spoke to the nurse early this morning while up pumping.
As I wrote last night, the plan is for him to be off Nitric so they can do an MRI. They were possibly going to do it last night but now it looks like it won't be before noon today (4/6).
They are trying to wean him completely off of Nitric by 9 am. Blood gasses are being drawn every 3 hours now instead of every 6 because they need to keep a close eye on how he's tolerating the weaning. As of 3 am he at 2. When I left yesterday at 5 pm, he was still at just under 9 so there's been a lot of progress made so far. At 6 am the nurse will do another blood gas to see if they can wean him down to 1. Then @ 9 am another one will be done to see if they can wean him completely.
As they are weaning the Nitric, they are upping the Sildenafil to try to balance it out. The thought is that he can be on as needed doses of Sildenafil without it being an constant feed like the Nitric. During the day, the Sildenafil was at 6.3 and before the shift change at 7 pm, they went up to 7 milligrams.
Everything else, including ventilation, is staying same. Once the MRI is done, they’ll see how he tolerates the whole experience and assess where he needs to be at that time. I'll update as I opportunity to do so during the day.
