An epic party that Ian had no interest in.

As part of my "job" I'm very involved in all things school related. To be honest, I want to be and I also feel guilty about being a "stay-at-home" mom. So, as the 5th grade culmination/promotion is upon us, I'm in every committee. I had reached out to try to find a lead for the party committee. Eventually, the friend who agreed to host it in her rental back yard, and the friend who was loaning hs blow-up outdoor movie screen, agreed to lead. When it was 10 days before the party was to happen, and there had been no organizing meetings, I stepped in to help. And I have trouble throwing a party that is not special in some way. I believe that comes from my childhood parties my parents used to throw for us... always epic!

I spent hours on research and shopping for items, trying to save money all the way, but make it amazing. And that I did! All the while knowing that my sweet boy would probably not even want to be there. And that is exactly what happened. All the other kids had a blast! When Mike brought Ian over, he was asking to go home the moment he walked into the yard. He did engage with a few friends. And we got him to stay for an hour. But bottom line, he had no interest.

I did what I had to for myself to do the right thing. And he did what he had to to make himself feel ok. Just sad. As this is probably the last party of it's kind where the kids didn't worry about being too cool to play and run around. Of course I'm very nervous about middle school but here it comes anyway.
