Lila and I are taking a quite extravagant trip to New York. She’s been asking to do this for a few years. Crazy that I’d even entertain the idea. But this year is a special one as her birthday and Mother’s Day are on the same day. She was born on a Saturday before Mother’s Day. My first one as a mother I had a 1 day old child. And the next year it skipped because of Leap Year. So next time it will happen will be 2024. And on that year, I’m hoping we will have another amazing mother/daughter trip together.
I’ve been given a remarkable sign showing me it was the right decision to take this trip. In the seats in front of us are a sister and brother probably in their late teens. What makes this duo amazing is that the boy is autistic and the sister is truly amazing with him. It’s almost like someone is telling me, my sweet girl will be there for her brother forever. And she loves him, as he will replay to her often, “More than anything in the world.” She does a lot for him and will probably do so for the rest of his life. It’s nice to give back to her some extremely special quality time.
Our trip to the Bahamas wouldn’t have been anything like it was if it were not for her joining us. The love she showers him with is truly heart warming. Don’t get me wrong, they fight and she says unkind things when he dumps her stuff all over the place. And as he’s trying to hurt her fingers or push her away. But it’s almost like they both need that “typical sibling rivalry”. I swear they have a love/hate relationship with it.
