We attended a birthday party for twin boys who Ian has been in school with for the last two years. We've been to this kind of party many times. Usually he'll find a favorite toy and hang with that, then when the food comes out he's fighting to eat the whole time. Not so fun for either of us.
This time he was out on the play floor with his friends. Not really playing with them but along side them and acknowledging them. Climbing on a small play structure on his own and trying to the slide. Trying for the food a bit but when I said we were "all done food, time to play" even during cake time if you can believe it, he walked out onto the play area. Was so exciting to experience. At the end of the party he was really connecting with his friends. Saying their names and trying to physically connect with them. And they were completely reciprocal. So wonderful!
