My senses were not on yesterday morning upon entering Lila's room where she and Ian had slept together the night before. (which is so amazingly sweet to see) They were both awake, Lila was sitting up reading next to Ian who was laying down with his water cup. I noticed he was completely sweaty and then noticed his feet were super cold but for some reason it didn't click that there was something really wrong there. So I delayed in testing. Chatting to both of them about our upcoming zoo trip, etc. I snuggled with Ian a bit, he was a little out of it and then it hit me, I should test him quickly.
He was at 27! That is only 4 points higher than when we were in the ER in August and he didn't wake up for 4 hours! I ran out to the kitchen yelling to Lila to get the juice, scrambling to find it. No OJ but pineapple would work. Ran it back to him and luckily, he sat up and drank it. Then asked for more so I brought another to him and he downed that.
Within moments, just as it had in the ER, his sweat was gone but he had laid down again and fell fast asleep, snoring before I could even get his cup onto the windowsill. I immediately called the Endo on call, which happened to be Dr. Lee who we had just seen on Monday. She walked me through what had happened and said I had rescued him appropriately, done all the right things, but I couldn't stop crying. Why had I not reacted quicker. And how long would it take him to wake up this time.
She said I shouldn't worry. To let him sleep for 15-20, wake him up, feed him and take him to the zoo as planned. Hard to get my head around but I called my friend we were going with and she offered to have Lila over while I waited. I took her up on it and come right back in, laid down with him and waited. Amazingly, around 20 minutes later, I started kissing him more on his face and talking to him and he woke up. Thank goodness!
And we did as Dr. Lee said, ate, then got ready and went to the zoo with our friends. And he was fine, just as she said. A bit tired, but fine. And he loved the animals... so glad I took him.
She emailed back upping his dose of Growth Hormone from .2 to .6 and asked me to add corn starch to his night time routine. We had tried it before and it didn't seem to make a difference. But I'll try it again. Yucky part is she said to work my way from 1.5 tbsp to 10 tbsp if need be. We'll see how it goes.
