I had originally written a post with this pic but sometimes when I do it on my phone the post gets lost. I often forget I need to put the text before the pic for some reason. Anyway, this was Ian's first day of preschool at Step-by-Step. An amazing school in SM with an amazing teacher/student ratio and a mix of special needs and neuro-typical children. It was so enjoyable to join him in the classroom the first couple weeks before he was ready for me to transition out.
He loves it! He's chatty the whole time, he connects happily with his little friends in class, enjoys music class and time in the play rooms. So amazing for him!
Lila (being the very protective sister) was concerned about the long days. He's there M,T, Th, F from around 8:30ish-12:15. But it's the perfect amount of time for this kind of class. They do pretty much what most preschools do: calendar, schedule, attendance (with pics), seasons, weather, potty time, music (with a music therapist every day), free-play, walks around the community and to the park, play time in the OT room (trampoline, swings, ball pit, climbing structure, etc.) and in the Arena (trikes, cars, balls, play structures). But it's all at a very slow pace. Just what Ian needs! It really gives the children a chance to take it all in. It's amazing... very happy we put in the extra energy to make sure he could attend this school. He will progress so much more in this environment than he ever would in any of the schools originally proposed.
