Crazy week but lots of progress for our angel boy.

This week was a full one of meetings, doctor appts, therapy and Lila's camp performance of Sound of Music. On top of completely full days, Bella (our dog) got skunked and filled out house with the burning aroma, and our plumbing totally backed up. I just had to laugh.

No matter the trivial issues that arise, the most important thing is our sweet angel boy's progress. He's been choosing to walk more on his own. The picture below shows him walking out from the wonderful Dr. Gill's office. But the office is at the completely opposite end of the hallway. He walked the whole way down the hall, into the elevator, out the lobby and to the car... on his own! Amazing!

And the letter pic below... of course he's obsessed with letters, numbers and books. So he now plays with a wonderful little easel that Lila had as a gift from my parents years ago. We line up the letters together, I ask him to find them and then he hands them to me and I line them up. Well... in this pic, on that day, he actually found, and put in line, the H, I, J & K! So cool.

Pediatric Minds has been really great for him. We love his therapist and the program is really good. Will be interesting to see how the next month goes.

Finally working on a communication device. It took me a year to get to the point of realizing I had to go there. Not an easy decision. But I now realize it's not giving up talking, just giving him a way to communicate other than grunting and pointing. It'll take a bit to get all of us used to using it and get him good with it but we are at least running with it. It's GoTalk on an iPad. I'm also building a binder of icons for him to tear off and hand to me. Or for me to give him choices and put on the outside of the binder. And organizing his toys so he has to hand me a pic of something if he wants to play with it. Lots of time building these systems but they all should really help him in the long run.
