In for an MRI

I'm sitting in the cafeteria of Children's Hospital with a restaurant buzzer waiting for my sweet boy to be done with his MRI. The night/morning went as good as it could I guess. Except the anesthesiologist got his IV on the 2nd try instead of the 1st. But it was pretty quick. The thing that freaked me out, besides seeing my sweet love going through it all, was when they put him to sleep he had his eyes open. I should have closed his eyes before I left him. I'm sure they did. Dr. Borchert also put the drops in to dilate his eyes so his pupils were huge as well.

Anyway, I'm sure it will all go okay. It will be good to get both the MRI done and the picture of his optic nerve so they have a baseline for that. We need to know what the heck is happening with his brain as it continues to push his skull bones out.

We will stay the night so they can monitor his oxygen saturation. Should be out in the morning and then will head up to visit family for Thanksgiving. Looking forward to that.

On the developmental front Ian is doing amazingly well. Both his gross and fine motor skills are really progressing. His speech has taken a back seat though. We pretty much now have no words, although he was working on Momma again early this morning. Hoping that it's just his brain focussing on the other skills for now.

He's pulling up on everything and finally cruising. I'm hoping for a little walker for Christmas ;-) Or maybe Valentines day. Whenever it comes it will be worth the wait!

  1. hi shari,
thanks for the update! glad to hear of ian's progress and hope all goes well with the mri. we just spent a week in the hospital for a respiratory infection and now we have a nebulizer for twice daily breathing treatments and cpt. but otherwise, emmy is doing well and making some baby strides as well with her development. neck continues to get a bit stronger, her overall state of well being more organized and she's even batting at and grasping toys on occasion. amazing how important even the tiniest things are. anyhow, thinking of you all and wishing you a very happy thanksgiving. through it all, there is much to be thankful for, as i'm sure you agree. xoxo
