At Children's Hospital this time

We've officially switched our Pulmonary doctor to Dr. Platzger at Children's Hospital Los Angeles. Ian picked up a bug and was wheezing and working harder to breathe by yesterday so I consulted with the attending on (1 of 12 compared to 1 of 2 at UCLA). He had been briefed by Dr. P and told us to come in. They wanted to be more proactive and aggressive with Ian as he is a complex patient and they need to get to know him. We were a direct admit last night.

It will be interesting to see the differences in care here. They will do an echo and set up a cardio consult while we are here as well as a neuro one with Dr. Wendy Mitchell, who is head of the department here. Those are the three specialties we will focus on here. It sounds like they have a Cardiologist who just handles rhythm who will also see Ian due to his ongoing irregularities. Another specialist is a Pulmonary Nutritionist who will look at why his blood sugars are off and try to optimize his growth to lead to more sturdy healthy lungs.

I'm very excited about the extent of care here compared to UCLA. They seem to have more extensive specialties specific to Ian's needs.

The accommodations are definitely different (UCLA is more of the Ritz Carlton and this is more like a Motel 6 ;-) though they are supposed to be opening a new Children's building in July directly next door. But we are here for the docs, not comfort and privacy.

Hopefully the stay will be short and Ian will be breathing comfortably again soon. I will update soon.
