Ian's update 4/23

I was finally there when the OT was working with Ian. She was great. Really sweet and very good with Ian. She got him to drink out of the bottle, but he only got down about 17 cc's. He drank the first part with no problems but then he started spitting a bit . She thought he just got tired, as expected. Because he was in such a bad mood when she last worked with him, she saw it as her first time working with him. So 17 cc's was not so bad for his "first" time with her and really 3rd time with a bottle with no attempts in 2 weeks.

His feeds are now up to 67 cc's, which is a full feeding for his weight, which is 9 lb. 15 oz.

They did a scan of his upper GI track, similar to how they did his swallow test, to see if he had reflux problems. They found that he doesn't! Luckily he didn't have to swallow the junk with the contrast, they just put it in his tummy via his feeding tube. So, turns out he just occasionally spits up like a "normal" baby. But let's not jinx him ;-)

His Milrinone is down to .1 and Captopril (the drug that has a similar effect but is through feeding tube instead of IV) is at the max dose for his weight. He seems to be doing fine with the combo. He felt a bit like he had a cold sweat when I first got there, even though he was wrapped up. Also, when I was holding him after the OT worked with him but the 2nd time I held him he felt fine. The nurse said it might have to do with how his heart is.

Still on Oxygen via his nasal cannula but I believe it's set at a very low rate. In general, he looks good. There are still many uncertainties that we will have to watch. Spoke to Dr. Anderson yesterday and the plan is to reassess him on Tuesday before she's off. Hopefully, we'll have some news on an estimated time we might be able to bring him home... but we don't want to rush him.
