Ian looked pretty good today. He's still intubated and it sounds like he will be until tomorrow. They will assess where he's at then and decide whether to take the tube out again. He's definitely not having as much trouble breathing as he was so I guess it was a good thing they put it in again. But I can tell he's really frustrated with it. I would be too.
They weaned him completely off of Morphine but still have him on Delotted. He seems to be having shakes here and there yesterday and today which I guess are the withdrawals. So hard to watch. I remember one of the nurses mentioning a while back that the Delotted is supposed to help with this. Maybe it would be worse if he wasn't on that.
He had to get two more transfusions of blood products today and one yesterday. I guess his count (I can't remember what the count is of) has been lower than they like. Having the correct level helps him with his oxygenation.
He finally received Grandpa's blood. I guess it takes a while to be processed and my Dad gave blood a couple of weeks ago and then came back to give Platelets as well. Every time I see the labels on the machine transferring the blood I look at the donor and it says anonymous. Today the nurse said it was from a designated donor which I believe has only been his Grandpa. Maybe that'll help make him stronger ;-)
While I was there, he was more alert than usual, which might have to do with being off Morphine. He wasn't awake the whole time but he did have a few alert minutes during 2-3 different times of my visit. That was nice. Often times he might sleep the whole time I'm there and it sometimes is up to 5 hours.
Mike went by this evening after dinner and said the same thing. He mentioned how alert he was. He also said he spit up after being fed, very normal baby behavior but I'm sure strange to see when he's got tubes coming out of this mouth. Good thing he was there to see it as the nurse was busy with other things.
He also said he saw his eyes do something he'd never seen before, although I guess the fellow on said they've seen it many times. I guess his eyes shook quickly back and forth for a bit, and then went back to their normal state. Mike saw it enough times that he was able to take a "video" of it with his iPhone. The fellow said there's a name for it (but I can't recall what it was) and they thought it was tied to his neurological issues. What this means I'm not sure but I'm sure it's something we'll discuss with Dr. Devaskar tomorrow.
