Now that our little guy is being weaned off of his sedatives a bit, we see more of his personality coming, out which is nice. He let's us know when he's pissed off, which happens when they are suctioning him or when he's getting his diaper changed. His nurse today actually gave him a bolus of Morphine at one point today because he was so pissed off his sat started falling lower than I've ever seen it. He mellowed out within a minute or two. She said that was the most angry she's ever seen him. He's also moving his legs around more and opening his eyes as well.
They now have him completely off of the Fentanyl but still on Morphine. I guess the Morphine is not as fast acting but also not as addictive. His oxygen is down to 50%. Both Mike & I got to change his diaper today and both had poops. From last night to this afternoon when we left, he'd actually had 4 poops which is a good sign that his bowels are doing what they should. His nurse said that would be a good indicator that he could move onto breast milk as soon as they were ready.
She also said the goal was to have me hold him as soon as possible! I'm so excited but also so nervous. I'm sure as soon as I do it once, I'll be fine. It's just hard to imagine how when he's got so many tubes coming out of him. Although, there are far less than just 4 days ago.
We brought some new socks so we could switch out the red & white stripped ho ho ones they had available. Today he wore his blue "Converse" socks and his big sister wore her pink Converse shoes. I thought that would be a cute way to have them connected in some way.
Everything is being brought down, slowly but surely. It was a good day for Ian.

Wonderful news! Poops are fabulous!
ReplyDeleteA fellow Emerson mom, Sarah, said she took care of you two the other day and that you seemed tired. Wish I could inject you with sleep! What can we do besides prayers to help you rest and recoup?
